Because home remodeling and renovations trends are tied closely to what happens with the sales of homes, we follow the Realtor.org blog closely. Just two weeks ago they published this useful article, Hot Home Trend: The Statement Shower, that was supported by a 2017 study provided by Houzz. This 2017 study of more than 1,200 homeowners who had either recently completed or were in the midst of a bathroom remodeling project uncovered that more than half were focused on increasing their shower space within master bathrooms. More than a quarter (27%) opted to remove an existing bathtub in their master bathroom renovations in order to allow more space for these important "Statement Showers". We've experienced the same demands lately from Northern Illinois homeowners, but are you willing to give up your tub in order to make a statement with your shower?

Less than 30 years ago, the idea that a residential bathroom could be 100 square feet or more seemed unfathomable to most homeowners, but as our need for larger homes and more spa-like amenities has evolved over decades, so to have our bathrooms. When you look at the typical master bathroom wish list for new home buyers, you'll see several items that simply take up significant space: double vanities, stand alone tubs, custom tiled showers and a separate water closet with toilet. By the time you take into account code requirements and an ease of use for the space, 100 square feet is quickly becoming an "average" size for brand new master bathrooms.
So we took great interest in this recent post by Houzz that documented eight different bathroom remodeling projects for bathrooms that fit this 100 square foot size requirement and how homeowners and designers collaborated on getting everything checked off their wish lists, while still making great use of their available space. While unfortunately none of these projects were based in Chicago, or even Illinois, we believe that for homeowners with a bathroom that is similar in size, these various examples will be truly helpful at making the most of your space and getting the best return on your home investment.
