When the Allen family of Crystal Lake Illinois contacted Diamond Bath earlier this month, they had a bathroom off of a hallway with an extra door connected to the master bedroom. They asked for us to close off the doorway to create more wall space in both rooms and they wanted the old tub replaced with Kohler shower system with adjustable shelves. We also replaced their flooring by installing gray slate Deva Gris porcelain tiles and matching grout. We installed the Kohler Highline classic comfort height water saving toilet and the new over-mount rectangular sink basin features a Delta single handle Watersense faucet in a stainless finish on a white marble countertop. The new vanity is solid hardwood in an espresso finish with premium brushed nickel hardware and soft-closing hinges and glides.
The Allen family project will be featured as a new Client Video next month, but we wanted to share these fresh "after" photos with everyone today! If any of your bathrooms are in need of professional remodeling, be sure to contact Diamond Bath today!

While we have spent many years as partners with Angie's List, and have been a Super Service Award recipient for many years in a row, we discovered something unusual this month. Apparently, Angie's List people are very different from HomeAdvisor people. Allegedly the separation between "types" is as great as those using iPhones versus those using Android or those who claim to be Sox fans versus die-hard Cubs fans! In order to explore this other platform of Illinois homeowners seeking professional remodeling help we applied for, and were approved, as a contractor "Pro" for HomeAdvisor this week. The challenge we have now is our business profile shows zero customer reviews, despite our long history of bathroom remodeling projects in Northern Illinois and hundreds of happy customers. So here is our special request to our past customers who utilize HomeAdvisor: Will you please leave us a review on the Diamond Bath HomeAdvisor profile page?
Here's our incentive for past customers to help us out; as soon as we receive 10 customer reviews on HomeAdvisor, we will randomly select one of those reviews on Facebook Live and award them a $100 Amazon Gift Certificate! If we don't have 10 reviews by Monday, July 31, 2017, we'll choose from however many reviews have been posted by that point - but hopefully it will not take that long. The reviews don't have to be great or glowing (as much as we would like for them to be!) but they MUST be from past Diamond Bath customers to qualify for this exclusive customer give-away. We thank you in advance for taking a few minutes out of your day to help our local company! We recently partnered with Home Advisor and began receiving some very helpful resources. One great article they published late last year but is still highly relevant today is their Top Bathroom Remodeling Trends. While all four of the areas they targeted are spot-on, we've added a bit of commentary to each and what we've found working with dozens of northern Illinois homeowners each year:
Showers Take Power: It seems that new showers have become THE focal point of the contemporary bathroom. Beyond just bigger shower heads, and more shower heads, most clients want built-in benches, shower niches or corner trays and almost everyone wants the beauty of tile surrounds (See Below. To see more of the After photos from this Diamond Bath Lake Villa project, click this recent blog post). Floors Score High: While updates to the flooring are very common with most renovations, one question we get frequently in Illinois is about heated floors. With so many months of cold weather, the luxury of heated floors has become much more affordable during the past five to ten years and it does help home resale values as well. Think New Sinks: The trend for his and hers vanities has not slowed one bit. While it is a bit of work to add new plumbing and drains, the benefits outweigh the expenses. While there is usually a slight decrease in available counter space, ask us about adding divider cabinetry to increase your bathroom storage space! Crazy for Cabinets and Countertops: A decade ago the average home bathroom could get by with a laminate counter top, but the trends that started in your kitchens, with granite and quartz countertops, has slowly but surely made it's way into the master and guest bathrooms. The good news is that your bathroom countertops are typically smaller than your kitchen counters so the costs for solid surface tops are more affordable. Late last month Realtor.com published a post called "7 Bathroom Design Trends Home Buyers Want to Flush Away". Obviously, being in the professional bathroom remodeling business for many years, this article caught our undivided attention immediately. While we can't agree with all seven trends completely, there are a few that we would advise our clients and future customers to be cautious of when it's time for bathroom renovations:
All White Box : They look absolutely beautiful when we wrap up a project, but a year or two of real-life use in all white bathroom tends to leaves marks, stains and other issues that stand out like a sore thumb to potential home buyers. Add color to your white bathroom box by creating an accent with paint or wallpaper, as well as colorful towels, bath mats, window treatments or sink skirts. Overly Funky Color Schemes : At the opposite end of the spectrum from the All White Box are the bathrooms focused on "natural" colors like mustard, salmon, raspberry and avocado. Beyond a wild use of colors, these bathrooms tend to have an a surreal mix of tile types and surfaces. We heartily endorse their common color formula (70% neutral, 20% contrasting colors and an accent for 10% of your bathroom). Massive Tubs : Unless you're playing for the Chicago Bulls, average people tend not to need massive tubs that look impressive but are more frequently impractical. The reality is that the cost of these whirlpool and soaker tubs tend to be complete losses when it comes time to sell the home. Many homeowners seem fixated on installing a massive tub in a space that is simply too small making the entire bathroom feel cramped and unbalanced. We do take exception to their concerns over dual sinks: While we understand that this bathroom design trend does reduce bathroom counter space slightly, we've found great success by installing divider cabinetry between the sinks (see below) to create exponentially more bathroom storage space while also creating a sense of privacy More of our "After" photos for this Cary, IL project available here. If you have some space saving concerns within your bathroom, be sure to check out this recent blog post with a gallery of great ideas. And, if NOW is the time for your professional bathroom renovation, Contact Diamond Bath today! Since we signed the lease for our new retail space in Crystal Lake last month, we've been working overtime to get everything ready! While the space is on the "cozy" side, we still want our offices and client selection center to reflect the professional work that Diamond Bath has become known for in Northern Illinois over the past several years. Last week we painted all the interior walls (see photos below) and today our door received its vinyl lettering. We've already placed vendor orders for all the sample size materials we'll have on display, and some of those may take up to six weeks to arrive, but we are preparing for a public opening around July 4th!
