Key Questions to Ask Before Bathroom Remodeling

Because a significant portion of our business ebbs and flows with the local real estate market, we tend to keep a close eye on trends identified by local real estate professionals and Realtor.com.  A few days ago we took great interest in this article, posted by Realtor.com, called 9 Crucial Question to Ask Before a Bathroom Remodel Begins. We highly encourage our visitors to review the article so we don't spoil too much in our commentary below. 

As we've seen with articles written by bloggers versus those of us who are active in the bathroom remodeling industry each work day, we find the majority of these questions on the money, but a few left us wondering.  Below, we'll focus on a few questions we feel are "key", if not crucial, to helping shape your bathroom renovation or professional bath remodeling project: 

Do you want a bigger bathroom with fixtures changing locations? This really combines questions #3 and #4 from the Realtor article, but at the core of these two questions we are trying to determine is this a bathroom renovation or a true remodel?  We've dedicated a lot of time and attention to helping people understand the differences between these two options, and even wrote an entire article dedicated to the Remodeling vs Renovation topic, but this is an important question to answer for yourselves before contacting a professional remodeling company. 

Are Universal Design features helpful to those using the bathroom? Maybe it's because we are all aging, but we've started to avoid the term "Age in Place" as much as we're trying to avoid AARP membership requests.  Meanwhile, a commonly accepted phrase in the home design and remodeling industry, "Universal Design" seems to accomplish similar goals without offending those of us a certain age.  Because this has been a common conversation, and explanation, for our team to have with Illinois homeowners, in 2018 we wrote an article on Universal Design that we frequently share to help everyone understand the many advantages of this design trend. 

What's on your new bathroom wishlist?
